Something that is academic is related to school. Your parents might want to spend less time playing video games and more time focusing on academic pursuits. The noun academic refers to a professor or scholar.
As a noun or an adjective, academic relates to book learning and not always in a good way. An academic discussion back in Plato’s Academy was probably something better than what it has more recently come to mean: a discussion that’s academic has no place in the real world; it’s not practical. An academic might have a PhD in Robotics but not know how to work the TV. It doesn’t have to mean stuffy, though, just related to college — like when you need an academic gown for graduation.
Erasmus’s political diatribes were far too academic and too general for that.
Certainly it cannot be related to real business life by the academic student.

Scholars who have escaped attacks on their life and wellbeing visit member institutions as part of SAR’s Scholar Speaker Series to share their story and discuss the importance of academic freedom. SAR also convenes researchers, academics and students for more extensive dialogue and planning around academic freedom and other pressing issues at workshops and conferences, including SAR’s biennial Congress. Out of these workshops and conferences, SAR has coordinated working groups of scholars and researchers who conduct collaborative research related to academic freedom and higher education, including wrongful prosecutions and protecting student expression. SAR has also produced a massive open online course ( MOOC), “Dangerous Questions: Why Academic Freedom Matters,” which explores the meaning of academic freedom and how it relates to core higher education and societal values.

Wichita State University’s Academic Year consists of a 16 week Fall and a 16 week Spring semester with an 8 week Summer semester acting as a trailer to the Academic Year. The full academic year is 24 credit hours and 32 weeks long. The Fall and the Spring semesters each contain a “pre-session” mini-semester the begins before the regular semester. Pre-session courses are, for financial aid purposes, attached to the full-length semester that comes after them. For example, the August pre-session courses are considered to be a part of the Fall Semester.
Fall semester courses typically run from mid-August through early-December and Spring semester courses typically run from mid-January through early-May. Summer courses typically run from early-June through late-July.

Dark academia is the unofficial term for a genre of fiction with stories that revolve around an academic campus. In literature, it’s recognized with the title campus or academic novel. Film has no term for it yet.
Dark academia works contain elements of satire, tragedy, and philosophy. They tend to promote humanities and liberal arts as passions for their protagonists to pursue. Since dark academia centers around an academic environment with young adults, most of the stories are coming-of-age.
